The Inhibition of Testicular Hyaluronidase by Heavy Metals*

چکیده

The literature on inhibitors of hyaluronidase is both voluminous and contradictory. The contradictions are caused by the differences in methods used, by the differences in enzyme purity, and to a very high degree by the differences in the purity of the substrates used. The latter are often contaminated with protein, with glycogen, and with mucopolysaccharides other than hyaluronic acid, especially when umbilical cord is the source (1). One factor which affects enzyme activity appears to be contamination with heavy metals, especially Fe+++ and Cu++. These metals have a high affinity for some group or groups in the enzyme, causing a reversible inactivation. The most effective reversing agent when Fe+++ is the inactivating metal is pyrophosphate; with Cuff, cysteine appears to be best.

Phytotoxic Effects of Heavy Metals on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Medical Plant, Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis L.)

To assess the phytotoxicity of cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), Nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn) on seed germination and seedling growth of Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis L.), experiments were performed in different aqueous concentrations (50, 100 and 150μM) of aforementioned heavy metals over the period of 14 sequential days. The results showed that heavy metals adversely affect the normal gro...

Comparative Study on the Remediation Potential of Panicum Maximum and Axonopus Compressus in Zinc (Zn) Contaminated Soil

Soil contamination by heavy metals has increased noticeably within the past years. Unlike organic compounds, metals cannot degrade; therefore effective cleanup is required to reduce its toxicity. This experiment was undertaken to investigate the comparative potential of Panicum maximum and Axonopus compressus to bioremediate zinc polluted soils, the impact of Zn on the antioxidant defense syste...

P-42: Concentrations of Zinc, Copper, Iron, lead, and Cadmium in Ram Epididymal Tissue and Their Correlations to Serum Testosterone

Background With the advent of rapid industrialization, several chemicals are released in the air, water and soil. Chemical elements play a crucial role in male reproduction. Heavy metals exposure can adversely affect male fertility and result in severe impairment of testicular functions including germ cell death and inhibition of testicular steroidogenesis. The aim of this study was to investig...
